Al Barsha South lies eight kilometres inland from Palm Jumeirah and to the east of Jumeirah Village Circle, just north of Motor City. The land to the east of Al Barsha South has not yet been developed but is earmarked for the vast new Mohammed bin Rashid City and a Universal Studios theme park.

The district includes five areas, Al Barsha South 1, 2, and 3, Arjan and Dubai Science Park. Segment 1 has been built and contains villas and town houses. Segments 2 and 3 are not yet completed. Arjan is under construction and includes the completed Dubai Miracle Garden floral park. Dubai Science Park is up and running.

The housing in Al Barsha South comprises three- to five-bedroom villas with big gardens making it popular with families.

There are several schools within the community including Gems World Academy, Nord Anglia International School, JSS International School, Foremarke School, Al Safa Community School and Kings College.

The nearest medical facilities are the Al Barsha Health Centre and the Saudi German Hospital, also in Al Barsha.
